In the latter part of 2003, there was a 'Spirited Away' fanart competition in which the prize was to have your artwork in the exras sectoin of the official UK DVD release of Spirited Away. I thought I'd have a go at the contest, and this is the result.
The ghibli style of art was fairly simple and enjoyable to draw. The best part was of course drawing Haku's dragon form - I love dragons, and this one reminds me of the dragon from 'Never Ending Story', a favorite film of mine when I was little. As per usual, I was running late for the deadline, so I had to rush the background. Those trees look so lame ;; Despite my shortage of time, I decided I wasn't happy with it in cel style, it just looked to flat to me, so I had a super mad rush re-colouring it in my preferred shading style. But when I finished that one I found I preferred the original cel style pic instead, lol. I'm so indecisive ; I asked the guys over at AAUK what they thought and it seems as though the cel style was preferred so that's the one I entered in the contest, and uploaded here, but if you want to see the other version it on my website.
If anyone reading this *has* the UK edition official Spirited Away DVD, would they do me a big favour and look in the gallery/fanart gallery on the DVD's extras and tell me if it's there? I never did find out if I'd won...
Too bad us japanese...i...ans(?) dont make sequels . Cause at the end, Chihiro asked if she could come back and Haku said yes. This movie is my favorite, i like it even more than Totoro
That was a great movie.
